Bio

Ellen and Lynda Kahn, Emmy-award winning, bi-coastal identical twins (AKA TwinArt) began experimenting with video and film in the late 70s. They became pioneers in digital media and the music video genre in the early 80s and are recipients of a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship grant in Visual Arts in 1981. TwinArt's interdisciplinary artwork exploring the women’s experience in mass media exhibits internationally in museums and galleries including The Whitney, The Met, Laguna Art Museum, Pompidou Centre, ICA London, Tokyo Video Biennial and Nassau County Museum of Art. Nam June Paik, the father of video art, collaborated with Ellen and Lynda, who also performed in Bye Bye Kipling the groundbreaking international PBS satellite special. Polaroid sponsored TwinArt’s large format photographs (20X24 project) and short films from 1987-1992. Their original vibrant and playful pop style caught the attention of MTV, Cable and Broadcast Networks and soon they developed careers as Creative Directors in the entertainment business. Their artistic vision is seen in: Peewee’s Playhouse, Emilio Pucci, Martini & Rossi, and Arrested Development. Absolut Vodka artist series selected the pair to design ABSOLUT TWINART, an ad and poster, in the collection of Sweden’s Spritmuseum. The archival record label, Modern Harmonic/ Sundazed Music, released the double vinyl LP TwinArt presents: Instant This / Instant That in 2022. Most recently, In 2023, TwinArt had their inaugural exhibition AfterGlow X TwinArt at Melissa Morgan Fine Art in Palm Desert, CA. Ellen Kahn currently lives in NYC and Palm Springs while Lynda Kahn resides in Los Angeles.
